I got my my first camera - a Kodak Brownie 127 - when I was about 9. Then at 13, I advanced onto a Voitländer Vito B (the shutter used to stick!), and at 19, to a Leica M2...which I still treasure.
Many decades later, I still get a buzz out of taking photographs. Taking landscapes, solitary trees, flowers and portraits - I enjoy it all immensely. Somehow, the process allows you to express something of yourself, which is very fulfilling. My architectural training probably helps to give me a good eye... I hope so!
About 18 months ago I bought a Canon EOS-5D and a few L series zoom lenses. I suppose it was expensive, but once you've got it, it costs you nothing, other than your fuel for the car. Also,I bought, on my son Peter's (www.peterguthrie.net) recommendation, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, which I am delighted with. My HP B9180 A3+ printer, along with Perma Jet Oyster 271 paper, is giving very good results, and I have recently sold 12 framed landscapes to a local hotel.
The idea of an old Hassleblad with a digital back is presently tempting me!
